Dear HOPE Friends,
University Students from Chicago š Pitch In to Sponsor Door-to-Door Iftars š² in the Northern Areas ā°ļø of Pakistan šµš°- Featuring Yusuf Foundation MCHCs š„
This Ramadan āŖļø, in a heartwarming gesture of support for the needy ā¤ļøāš©¹, a group of college students from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Depaul University, and College of Dupage banded together to form a collection for HOPE's Door-to-Door Iftars š². Altogether, they were able to raise enough funds to provide meals š² for underserved children and adults at all four of Yusuf Foundation's Maternal and Child Health Centers š„ in the Northern Areas of Pakistan šµš°.
š¶ According to Unicef, Pakistan šµš° has the highest Infant Mortality Rate in the world - 1 in 22 infants š¶š» are at risk for dying within a month of birth.
š¶ Similarly, Pakistan's Maternal Mortality Rate accounts for 28% of the global š total - one woman passes away from pregnancy complications every 37 minutes.
š· Though these statistics are dire, there is a tremendous opportunity for intervention as 80% of infant deaths and 33% of maternal deaths in Pakistan šµš° are preventable.
Over the course of almost three decades, HOPE has been able to make tremendous strides with regards to mitigating the adversely high Maternal and Infant Mortality rates in Pakistan šµš°. By working at a grassroots level in underserved communities and providing free access to healthcare 𩺠to mothers š©š»āš¼ and babies š¶š», HOPE has been diligently and resourcefully taking advantage of the statistically-backed windows of opportunities to save lives.
Most recently, our efforts have been catapulted by the tremendous generosity š of Yusuf Foundation - through Yusuf Foundation's backing, HOPE has been able to expand into the Northern Areas ā°ļø of Pakistan, remote village š regions in which no health facilities previously existed for disadvantaged populations.
Over the course of the past three years, Yusuf Foundation has sponsored construction and operational costs of three MCHCs š„ in the Northern Areas ā°ļø of Pakistan šµš° (Mansehra, KPK, Garhi Habibullah, KPK, and Muzaffargarh, Punjab) along with adopting a fourth MCHC š„ in Azad Kashmir ā°ļø. Altogether, these facilities are provide 24/7 no-cost healthcare to 200,000 villagers annually, 70% of whom are women and children.
By providing prenatal š¤°š» postnatal š©š»āš¼, and infant/child healthcare during critical times, HOPE/Yusuf Foundation's MCHCs š„ have been able to impact regions in which mothers š©š»āš¼ traditionally gave birth in their own homes with no assistance - often with precarious consequences such as hemorrhaging or other severe labor complications. These MCHCs have had a transformative effect ⨠in their respective regions, especially with regards to enhancing Maternal and Infant health for these communities.
Featured in these pictures are the UIUC, Depaul, and COD students' contributions towards making a difference in the rugged terrain of the Northern Areas ā°ļøof Pakistan šµš°.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the Chicago students' for their initiative in making a difference this Ramadan š. š The HOPE Team was so touched by their gesture that we chose to dedicate their gift to the regions impacted by Yusuf Foundation's life-saving efforts.
Warm regards,
The HOPE UK š¬š§šµš°, HOPE USA šŗšøšµš°, and HOPE Pakistan Teams šµš°
